My usual breakfast these days
I've gone the whole route over the years, cold and hot cereals, eggs and all the fixins. But these days when it's cold I have found a new breakfast treat that hits the spot and is a pretty quick fix.
I take 2 slices of bread, usually rye or sourdough. I lay on a few slices of really good prosciutto ham and a thin layer of buffalo mozzarella cheese, i butter the bread and brown it in an old black skillet. I wash it down with coffee and orange juice. I know it might not sound healthy but damn it hits the spot at 7am and I figure it's lower fat then some things like eggs and bacon. |

I used to take wide potato bread, put on a few slices of provolone, a few layers of spicy pepperoni, spray the outside with butter and grill it. Grilled sandwiches are brilliant. Note: this was not for breakfast! My breakfast now consists of one english muffin with butter and one clementine orange.

This morning, I had a bean and cheese burrito for breakfast. Prosciutto and mozzarella on sourdough sounds like a good way to start the day!

For the past 10 years, I've had a bowl of Wheaties for breakfast just about every day. Lately, in the last month or so, I've been getting frozen blueberries from Trader Joe's, and I put a handful of those on there. They make the milk nice and cold, and they taste great.

Coffee, sometimes with creamer and sweetener, sometimes with that *and* hot chocolate powder. Mmmm...nutritious. Not!

Beau Geste author Percival Christopher Wren once blamed the nature of French politics on Continental breakfasts. He may have been right: eggs and oatmeal, occasionally bacon, plus fruit or juice and 100% whole wheat toast, keep me from peckishness and the "off" feeling of not having started the day on enough provender. Lousy way to try and make it until noon.

I can't eat for a couple of hours after I wake-up, always been that way. I drink something then eat some left-overs, usually.
I have eaten "breakfast food" for dinner far more than I have in the morning. |

I wake up, crack open a diet coke. It never matters if I'm hungover or have been sober for days, if I have no diet coke for the morning I think I might die.
