Marketing question
Working on that invention I was talking to you about.
At first I was thinking of marketing it to stars, making it impossible for paparazzi to take their photos. Now, I'm thinking, I could do that at first, with a higher price until the market saturated. Then, what if I went to a broader market. Longer battery life and a longer lasting and lower emittance ... well that's enough. The back of people's cars so cops could not record their license plate. Walking through downtown London, no face recognition, at an ATM, etc? Hmmmmm? |

Sounds neat. What's the question?

Hmmmm. Sounds like a boon to the criminal fraternity as well as celebs.
I don't know about the US, but in the UK it is illegal to obscure your number plate. My ex was stopped by the police for having mud all over his numberplate - it was genuinely just muddy (we'd been up to the woods) but it gave them the chance to check his tax and breathalyse him - we'd been to the pub afterwards and the car probably smelled of the booze on my breath at least. This suggests a product that has the same effect (however it is achieved) would probably be outlawed.

It does sound illegal, but that doesn't stop anybody else from selling gadgets in the back of Popular Science etc.

So you invented something like this camera blocker invented at Georgia Institute of Technology, but portable?

Why illegal, no one has a right to take your photo? In no way would it obsure the plate, just make it impossible for anyone to take a photo of it. Not the same thing at all.
I have not developed that aspect of it yet, anyway. Still working on the still camera aspect, video is a long-term goal. But, once I get my stuff done, others will expand on it, no doubt. I am working on it. I e-mailed the guy from GA... thanks. It would not be a cloak, but to those monitoring me in London, I would be a big blank spot or ... well, "other". It would be SWEET. The more I think about it, the more I think I could input images, like a panda, big middle finger, etc, onto the immage that does get recorded... hmmmm....? I'm probably giving it away to those who understand. Last edited by rkzenrage; 06-18-2007 at 04:44 PM. |

Well, they have a right to point the camera and shoot in your direction, at least.

I saw a programme the other night, part of the BBC4 'Birth of Now' series, looking at the Edwardians. Once cameras started to become more portable, and ceased the need for the subject to sit still for an hour, the Paparrazi were born
