Aardman creatures fight prejudice

The creatures will be seen on TV from January

New characters
The team behind the Wallace and Gromit cartoons have unveiled six new characters - all with disabilities.
Aardman Animations has based the plasticine animals - including a bull terrier in a wheelchair - on those from its Creature Comforts TV series.

The new Creature Discomforts characters will appear in adverts from next week.

The animals are part of a campaign by the Leonard Cheshire Disability charity to highlight the discrimination faced by disabled people.

They ran the show Creature Comforts for about 2 episodes on CBS, and it was funny. I think the concept of making characters to boost awareness of disabilities is great.
In fact, I think they should bring back the show Creature Comforts and add some of these new characters.
Unfortunately, since it wasn't a reality show or a cop show, the American public didn't go for it I guess. Too smart for some.

There was a good series of adverts on disability recently - the only one I particularly remember was a deaf barman in a club. It stuck in my mind because I always thought it was the perfect job for someone who could lipread (deaf or not).

The vet we took our pets to when I was a kid had photos of his patients in the waiting room. One showed a beagle who had been hit by a car and couldn't use it's back legs, possibly spinal damage or possibly pelvic damage. The vet had made a "wheelchair" with a sling for the the dog's hips to sit in, hung from crossbars which connected by two inverted A-frames to wide-tired wheels.
He couldn't run but he could get around. I always used to wonder how he marked his territory, though.

I can imagine him backing into position, emitting tiny beeping sounds.
