The Lookoutsundae Motivation Thread

It struck me that Lookout and Sundae were both caught in the same web. Lookout losing his motivation at work and Sundae hers in the gym. I was digging around on the web for info on intrinsic motivation while thinking about programs for kids and came across an interesting list of factors that feed into intrinsic motivation. From here I found, challenge, curiosity, control, fantasy, competition, cooperation, and recognition. I'm not sure recognition is an intrinsic motivator, but it seems like a good list for someone to consider if they need to refocus their drive. ymmv

Thanks Griff, I'll have to look further when I have a bit more time.

By the time one identifies, analyzes, and plans to use each factor for each issue needing motivation . . . it's too late.

Seriously, Griff, great list, and interesting to think about. What motivates you at your job? A slightly different question than what motivates you to work, and of course what motivates you at the gym.

Fantasy, hmm? Let's see . . .

I've read that the best way to get any exercise is to find something that's fun to do. even if it's walking four miles each way to get a pint.
Me, I'm having fun learning how to do things like lifting kettlebells for competition, admittedly not for everyone.

I think it's the first two; challenge and curiosity. Every kid who is having a problem poses an interesting puzzle. What can be done differently to create a positive first school experience for him and help him be successful?
