Happy 4th, Americans!

I was out on a walk yesterday, exercising and trying to improve my photography skills, and I saw these and thought of all y'all. Sorry about the picture quality -it was pretty early in the walk!

thanks Monstah.

233 years ago, some guys wearing suits with NO air conditioning decided to declare independence from an oppressive foreign government. And all that that meant and led to. can you imagine?

It has been a great ride we have gone far and we hope to go farther. Ever since this country was created as a tax doge we have stride for something different. Perhaps one day we will see the paragon of an egalitarian people and freedom that was once in visioned.

When her better angels guide her, America is a beautiful expression of hope. Long may that hope endure.

I misread that as "Happy Indigestion Day"

Just out of curiosity, if you approached 10 eight graders and asked them what historical event is being celebrated on the 4th of July, how many would give the right answer?

Well, our plans for today changed radically. I had two primo tickets to the Royals game today, but I seem to have lost my billfold with the tickets inside (fortunately, I have my debit card and drivers license in my pocket). So, while Selene studies, Kaleigh and I have gone out and bought explosive devices, chicken, corn on the cob and beer. The yardbird is now gloriously slow smoking on the charcoal side of my new grille, and I am drinking a cold Sam Adams Boston Lager while monitoring the process.

Later, the kids are coming over to ignite the fireworks we bought.

It would only reflect the larger issue that few of them can locate Iraq on a map.

We did fireworks at a friends house on the way home from the Adirondacks. The explosives are illegal to sell in New York so they were imported from PA and Mexico... naturally the main fuse man was a NYS Trooper, this lead to a discussion about the stupid number of laws this freeish country has.
