Massachusetts

Interesting developments in this state. I am not sure that I believe that a Republickin would ever win this seat from such a Demoncratic stronghold but there sure is a lot of talk about it. It would be a game changer for any future plans for anything the Dems wanted to do in the Senate, or anything else for that matter. The election is just around the corner and things are heating up.

And a bit of rough play by the Dem front-runner.

She called Curt Schilling a Yankees fan. She deserves to lose. I know Schill is a Republican but there's no excuse for that sort of trash talk in New England.

I heard Chris Matthews on the Michael Smerconish program this am. He believes that she'll lose the election. That was pretty surprising to me, coming from him.

Well today is the day. I really think it could go either way. I never believe polls. It should also be interesting to see if they delay certifying the vote until later in the month. In the end I believe the Healthcare Bill will pass, just how it gets passed is a matter of interest.

I've been wondering what the heck is going on with the election today and couldn't find anything anywhere. Now I know why ....

Why There Won't Be Exit Polls in Massachusetts
One out of four Massachusetts voters think ACORN will try to steal the election.
Quote:
Mr. Brown's surge was so sudden that many of the usual accoutrements of closely-contested elections are missing in the Bay State.

One is exit polls. There will be none tonight from Massachusetts, disappointing journalists and political scientists alike. As Mike Allen of Politico.com reports, the consortium of news outlets that normally organizes such surveys didn't bother when the race was expected to be a blowout and now "wasn't confident a reliable system could be built so fast."

Another casualty of the expectation that the race would be a cakewalk for the Democrat will be an absence of absentee ballot fraud, the preferred method of putting an illegal thumb on the scale in a close race. Applications for absentee ballots had to be submitted by last Friday, providing little opportunity for those with ill intent to organize such an effort once they realized the race had tightened up.

That doesn't mean voters aren't suspicious of electoral fraud in a machine state like Massachusetts. Public Policy Polling, a firm with Democratic connections, included a question over the weekend about the infamous left-wing voter registration group ACORN, which has been linked to fraudulent activities in many states and several of whose members have been sent to jail.

When asked whether "ACORN will try to steal the election for Martha Coakley," a surprising 25% of those surveyed in Massachusetts said "yes." A total of 38% said "no," and another 37% weren't sure. Lest you think concern about ACORN was limited to Republicans, one out of six Democrats thought ACORN would attempt electoral hanky-panky. One out of four African-Americans expressed the same concern, along with the same number of voters who called themselves moderates.

Bummer - I always liked watching the numbers change as the different districts numbers came in.

The news will be carrying the vote when the polls close at 8pm Eastern time. Should be very interesting. So much for that minority of Tea Party Activists...

I don't think it was that, so much as it was a vote for someone in their face instead of an elitist who took 6 weeks off in the middle of an 8 week election and then called "daddy" to come bail her out when she fugged it all up.

I'm a lot surprised there isn't more discussion about this - This was a potentially HUGE event politically.

It's not like they were using that filibuster proof majority much anyway.

Poor Lieberman. He doesn't get to be the 60th vote anymore.

Is the deal with the unions off the table now? How bout Nebraska? Does this mean that all the deals made to get that "60th vote" are gone or what?

I read one piece (can't remember where) That said this Healthcare should have been done in pieces instead. Make them all vote on the individual components. I don't know how successful this would have been, but . . . conceptually I thought it was interesting.
