Morel Mushrooms

This year in my driveway I discovered Morel Mushrooms. I had never had them before and I found about 3 lbs of them. I sold 2 lbs and kept 1lb. Retail they are $35/lb. I got $20/lb and bought a bag of dog food.
So in the end the dogs got to eat and I had Morel mushrooms for the first time. Rolled in flour and sauteed in butter. Yum ambrosia for sure! I would pay $35/lb.

If you enjoyed them that much, they sound like immoral mushrooms.

Morels in the driveway! That's awesome! Is there a lot of old growth around for mushrooms to develop? You could find more...

Its like my wild black raspberry bushes, they only thrive in the small acreage that is fenced off from the cows. In the short time I have been a "mushroom hunter" I noticed that they don't grow where livestock can meander about.

My cattle dog keeps the cows away from the house and the driveway mostly. The shrooms seem to like thick wet almost swampy beds of leaves near downed trees. I can tell the type of ground by how it feels underfoot. I wish there were more but I doubt it. If it rains this week I will look after the rain. Sometimes they just pop up. [wonders why they are not called phallus shrooms?]

I had to google them, so at least now I know for sure there aren't any in my driveway. Who did you sell them to?

Wonderful! Try them sauteed in butter with lots of garlic salt & pepper - They also make outstanding soup.
