Portrait of my best friend, 1974

April 15th was the anniversary of the death of my one true best friend. He died a year ago after a life of drinking and smoking himself towards his grave, of a massive heart attack. I think he did it on that day because he hated doing his tax returns and I would usually get recruited to help complete them.

I only post it here because I took it of him in 1974 when we were both about 18; we were young long haired teenagers. We had gone on a road trip up to N. Georgia to the mountains. I look at it now and think, not bad for an aspiring wanna be photographer...

I rarely ever shot square format and still have not but someone had loaned me this crappy little Yashica twin lens reflex camera and I had some out date Agfachrome CT18 film which was not really a very good film.

But all in all, I think the composition was pretty good, the lighting and color balance are pleasant and the focus fall of or bokeh is pretty nice.

After he died, I went through his belongings with his family. Kind of funny but I kept his lawn mower, I had been with him when he bought it just a few months before. Now, when I mow my lawn I think of him and our friendship.

Terrific picture. You were blessed to have such a good friend for all those years. What a shame to lose him so young.
