Oh, the anguish...

Summer swim and Dive championships

Teams 1-6 are A league, 7-12 are B-league and everyone else is C. We've been in B by the skin of our teeth for 5 years. At the close of swimming today, our team was in 13th place. by 8 points. Only the 9-10 diving to go this afternoon. The team above us doesn't have a dive team. One of our boy divers just placed 11th. That scores us 6 points. Now we need two points to tie, three to go to 12th .....but the competetion among the 9/10 girls is ferocious and whilst our girls are good..... and I'm not there, i'm here doing essential paperwork and being kept informed by phone.....

argh!

Therefore, if the team fails to advance from 13th it will be your fault, because you're not there. Also, if the team captures 12th you will get no credit, nor Champagne, because you're not there.

It's better that I'm not there.... Last I heard, 71 female divers, some with very nice double flips..... ours don't even have 1.5s. although the dives they do have are nice..... We just need one itsy bitsy 14th place...... or we'll take a 15th and a 16th ...we're not greedy.......

wah!

Our highest placed diver came in 17th so close.

C-league here we come. The main bummer is only one other club has a dive team, so we don't get many dive meets.

2 freaking points short.

It also hurts that one of our swimmers got second when he should have been first because the first placed guy left early but didn't get DQd -that's a three point difference. But I'm sure we benefitted from similar decisions at times we didn't notice. Them's just the breaks

Is this where I'm supposed to say something about doing it for the love of the sport?

Screw that ... tell 'em to kick ass next year and get back into Division B!

He he wolf. Summer league is the one that pretends to be all light hearted and for fun and is totally cut-throat. The league meetings require full body armor apparently. If we weren't one of the founding clubs 50 years ago, our little neighborhood pool team would have been squished by the big corporate clubs years ago. We'll be back in B next year.
