How to improve the world even if you're broke
Even if you’re broke. This is from The Simple Dollar, a personal finance blog I really value. It’s kind of a neat list:

Donate your time, skills and knowledge.

of course, that's obvious; but I'm more selfish with my time than my money, and this list presents some less-common options

Do you not use your time and skills to aquire your money? Are they therefore not one and the same? I thought your list was rather obvious and patronizing but I thought it would be more beneficial to add the obvious missing items than to criticize. Guess I was wrong. Have fun with your thread.

I personally have never heard of or thought of donating your shoes to be recycled, or donating your wedding dress for cancer survivors, for example. If you don't think it's interesting, that's fine--I though it was neat.

Ariana Huffington was on a PBS program over the weekend, and among other topics she spoke of volunteering people could do.
But the difference was her audience. She spoke directly to people who were unemployed... mainly because even after doing all the job-search activities they still have time left over to get involved. She gave this link to a site with such activities. I looked it up and immediately found 2 links to activities in the PDX area: Get Out And Garden: Portland Community Gardens Natural Area Restoration In Outer Southwest Portland Then just by entering my Zip code there were pages and pages of more links. Ariana is just another liberal do-gooder. She does do good stuff. |

I thought the list was good. I hadn't thought of donating old paint or shoes or some of the extra supplies in my basement.
Sorry we aren't all as forward thinking as some of you. ![]() You did good Cloud. If for nothing else than reminding us. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Quote:

Class, the Cellar needs a "scarcasm" icon... but then a poke wouldn't be nearly as much fun.
