In my current state of chocolate (and alcohol and other sugars and white bread and dairy) deprivation, I'd say one would simply put the whole thing on the table and start eating. I see no need for a fork even.

Yep, doing the liver cleansing diet. Just started a couple of weeks ago.

Aden is doing it with me (more or less), and the family is having a main meal with me at night time which is from the book, so it's pretty cool. so far no major issues, although my head - up until yesterday arvo - had been aching for about 3 days. That's pretty standard though. I'm starting to feel a lot better now, and I've lost 2 kg so far. Hardly surprising though since I'm almost a vegan!

actually, looking closer at it, there does appear to be an Altoid in the launcher part. Maybe the mentos are just ballast?

I spent the rest of the evening in a hyperglycemic fit, alternately running around like a maniac and regurgitating the multi-colored remains of my conquest all over my grandparents' carpet. I was so miserable, but my suffering was small compared to the satisfaction I felt every time my horrible, conniving mother had to watch me retch up another rainbow of sweet, semi-digested success: this is for you, mom. This is what happens when you try to get between me and cake - I silently challenged her to try again to prevent me from obtaining something I wanted. Just once. Just to see what would happen. It didn't matter how violently ill I felt, in that moment, I was a god - the god of cake - and I was unstoppable.

I agree with your hypothesis - the mentos are ballast.
