The Let's Buy Dave A Bunch of Comedy CDs Project
After much discussion and thinking and private messages and emails and phone calls...
Folks, we truly have ourselves a little community going here, which is just so cool. Not just because it's running on my system, but because it's a community! I like you people and I like hanging out with you. You always have interesting and cool and funny things to say. And after a while we care about each other. But this is where we fall down as a community. We care, but we can't always be there to support. When Dave posted his pictures I had this sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach like, DAMN, one of our own has been hit a week and a half before Xmas. And there's nothing I can do about it. If I was in the area I could offer a guest bed and I could offer some hands sorting through stuff, and make sure that everyone had what they needed, etc. When people posted to Dave's thread it was clear they were feeling the same way. Warch hit me in email saying DAMN this sucks and is there anything we can do? And then I called Sycamore, which I was down to do for other business, and it was all we could talk about. At first we figured that maybe the iPod was lost and the music was all lost, and Dave loves music so much, so maybe getting a cd-based mp3 player and a bunch of burned disks would be a nice thing to do. After PMing with Dave this morning, it turns out that the music may be OK after all, saved on disk, and the iPod definitely is OK. So he probably doesn't need music. But Dave picked up on something I wrote: he would love to get a bunch of comedy CDs. He loves to laugh. And clearly, this is a time in his life when maybe getting a few laughs would give him the energy to power through the next bit of life. It just makes sense. Browsing through the Amazon bins, I can see a lot of stuff that I think would appeal to him: Brian Regan, Lewis Black, Jimmy Fallon, Jim Breuer, Bill Hicks, George Carlin, Eddie Izzard and a bunch of others. I have his work address so here's the plan. If you want to give to The Let's Buy Dave A Bunch of Comedy CDs Project, click on one of the Paypal links which lead to the Cellar Tip Jar. Donate as much as you would if you were buying a present for Dave in person. After you've given, write a private message to Sycamore telling him what you gave. That way there is third-party verification and you know that I won't just be taking your money to buy comedy CDs for myself. We're pressed for time here so give now. This project ends Saturday at midnight. On Sunday I place the order which will be delivered to Dave directly at his place of work. The giving will be entirely anonymous except that Sycamore and I will know who gave what. We are sworn to secrecy. We won't judge anybody by what they gave or didn't give. The Paypal button is at the bottom of your screen. Think about it won't you? Thank you. |

I should mention a few details of business.
The Paypal link allows you to donate using a credit card, if you like. You don't have to have a Paypal account or anything. The email address connected to the Cellar Tip Jar is not my cellar.org address but is connected to my erstwhile business incorporation. Anton is my real first name (now you know). |

Tony is so full of shit...we're going to take your money and blow it on weed and Krispy Kremes this coming Saturday.
Seriously though, I know that it's Xmas, and you're out there buying stuff for 90 million other people right now. You're almost tapped out, and if you aren't there yet, you will be come the first week of January. But if you could find it in your heart for even a small donation, it would be appreciated. I know Dave both on and off the Cellar, and he's a pretty damn cool guy that I consider a friend. And think of some of the threads he's created that have made us laugh...like the Tasteless Jokes thread and the Showerhead. As Shepps mentioned, I am sworn to secrecy. This isn't something that needs to be bragged about, nor will it be held against you later. Just give if you can. Thank you. |

If he's into Bill Hicks, add Doug Stanhope to the list of comics to seek out. Stephen Lynch also has possibilities.

Thanks man. I saw the Lynch when I was browsing around and never heard it before. Actually I dunno what will appeal precisely, I'm just guessing.

I would appear that I'm wrong and am again living up to my user title.

Order placed
The deadline for donating to The Let's Buy Dave A Bunch of Comedy CDs Project has passed. The order has been placed.
Unfortunately the cost to ship separate shipments and arrive before Xmas was terribly prohibitive, the way Amazon does things. It looks like there will be two packages, one with the first 8 CDs, which will arrive a few days after Xmas, and then a second a week later or so with another 3. That's right, Dave will be getting 11 comedy CDs. I'm so totally jealous! Comedy on CD has never matched up to the sales rate of comedy on vinyl used to. The marketplace kinda screwed the pooch transitioning from one to the other, when for a few years consumers felt the CD format was only for high-end audio and refused to buy any recordings not music. The comedy recording business is slowly coming back and this grouping is the start of the art of it. The discs Dave will get: Bill Hicks: Dangerous, Relentless, Rant in E Minor Brian Regan: Brian Regan Live Jim Breuer: Smoke and Breu Lewis Black: The End of the Universe, The White Album Richard Jeni: Greatest Bits Henry Rollins: Sweatbox George Carlin: Complaints and Grievances John Pinette: Show Me the Buffet Dave, and Jen too, we all hope that the CDs re-start your collection of stuff -- stuff that doesn't smell like smoke, anyway -- and that the laughs you get re-energize your spirits. |

I confirm that I received a copy of the amazon order containing the same information. And this was after we bought the dime bag and 4 dozen KKs.
Thanks again to those who contributed. Dave and Jenni, hope you guys enjoy them. |
