Would I be crazy to vote for this guy?

He sounds pretty good to me.

Quote:
While Gov. Rick Perry has been hesitant to release a more detailed economic plan, Texas Rep. Ron Paul on Monday introduced his own proposal, called the “Plan to Restore America.”

The plan is drastic, outlining $1 trillion in spending cuts in one year mainly by ending the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, stopping foreign aid and eliminating five cabinet departments: Energy, Housing and Urban Development, Commerce, Interior and Education.

Paul would also abolish the Transportation Security Administration and return “responsibility for security to private property owners.”

On taxes, Paul would lower the corporate rate to 15 percent, extend Bush tax cuts and end the estate tax and taxes on personal savings.

The plan calls to end corporate subsidies, audit the Federal Reserve and enact “competing currency legislation,” for options other than the dollar.

Paul would also give himself a salary of $39,336, “approximately equal to the median personal income of the American worker.” And he would cut Congressional “pay and perks,” and “excessive federal travel.”

I've voted for him in the past, but maybe I was crazier then? I feel like a solid centrist government could get us back to fiscal sanity, whereas a hardcore libertarian would probably just make the pendulum swing looney left after 4 years. "Everybody" (me included) calls themselves fiscally conservative and socially liberal, so I'd like to challenge some elected official to show us what that looks like IRL.

I've heard a lot of things about how looney Ron Paul is. I haven't bothered to investigate most of them because I live in a state where my vote has not yet mattered in a national election.

But I can tell you this with certainty: Rick Perry is pure, incorporated evil. Between those two, I'd vote for Ron Paul in a heartbeat, because at least if you spin the dial, looney might end up going in the right direction.

Here's one of my favorite parts:

But would you hire the average American worker to run the country?

Very broad terms not easily defined ...
Great talking points though.

Ron Paul would just be a lame duck for the entire term. He would stick to his principles but couldn't get anything done.

Hopefully it would get all the Ron Paul diehards to shut up. I'm annoyed with them more than any other political group.

Totally off-topic:

I went to see about that phrase, and found a commercial (below). I thought the kid looked familiar, and he is. It's Jesse Eisenberg from "The Social Network", and other films. Go figger.

What's the worst that could happen? Indeed.

Carry on.
