Google doodles

I thought there was a thread for this, but I didn't find it.

Google doodles are the artwork created out of the Google logo that they use on holidays and other days of note.

Today's artwork is fun (for a little at least). It must be the anniversary of pac-man. Let the page sit for a few seconds to see the animation.

It's not just an animation, you can play it, cursor keys to move.

Yes indeedy, Pac-man is 30!

I have a strong memory of being at my friend's house, and her younger brother coming in and telling us a story about this game at (probably) Krogers. He explained it in detail. Weird to think about it now, having never heard of it before, never really seeing those kinds of games, even at the arcade at the county fair, and now it's an icon.

And, it's one of those games I never was any good at.

Still, Happy Birthday Pac-man! I credit you with helping to pave the way to the many console and computer games I've fallen in love with over the years!

wacka wacka wacka

If you click insert coin (where the feeling lucky button usually is) after the game starts, it restarts with a Ms. Pac Man on the board as well.

But if the ghosts get her, you die too. So...

Mr Pac-man was the first virtual chivalrous man.

Went to see the Mountain Goats a couple of months ago in an old warehouse which has been a fairly basic venue (concrete floors, festival posters on the wall, bar stools and that's about it) for about the last 15 years. As always there was loads of time before the main act started, but there was a pac-man machine so we played until we ran out of coins (sadly we only had $3.00 in coins between us so the pac-man games didn't last long given how crap we were at it). Apart from the Mountain Goats singing Dance Music , it was the highlight of the evening.

Search for "world cup 2010" in google. Now scroll to the bottom of the screen and take a look at the Google logo.

The first Google Doodle was to the Burning Man Festival of 1998. The doodle was designed by Larry Page and Sergey Brin to notify users of their absence

It was pretty cool... I thought there might be more to it but I didn't spend to much time on it.

And now this comes out..
