Red Dwarf X

ohhhh. I am sooo psyched about the upcoming new Red Dwarf series. I've been rewatching old episodes. Getting reacquainted with the Boys from the Dwarf.

*happy dance*

Anyway. Was pootling about on Youtube looking for decent clips to post and found this:

So, if anyone is curious about RD, check this out It's the first ten minutes of the first episode, from waaaaaay back in the late 80s:

And then, Lister got put into cryostorage as a punishment for bringing a live cat on board and hiding it in the cargobay. Whilst in cryo, the ship had a radiation leak which killed the entire crew. The only survivors of the devastation were Lister, unawares in cryo, and his cat (pregnant), shielded in the cargo bay. Holly, the ship's intelligent computer keeps Lister in cryostorage until it is safe to come out.

When he does, 3 million years have passed by and he is, quite possibly the last human alive. In the meantime his cat has bred and evolved into a bipedal humanoid creature, known as Cat. In order to provide human company, Holly recreates his bunkmate, Arnold Rimmer as a hologram, under the mistaken assumption that they are friends.

The early episodes were a little clunky in places. That clip was from the pilot. By the end of the first series they were getting much smoother, and the chemistry was much better.

First 10 mins of Ep6:

By the third series they had added a new character to the team, with the addition of Kryten the mechanoid. A service robot rescued from a crashed ship.

I love Kryten

Here is Lister attempting to teach Kryten how to lie:

Was watching the old ones right up until I came up here to check on the Cellar.
Rimmer in green. Yumyum.

Then again, Rimmer in blue or red was still yum to me.

Aye

Got the song in ma heid and had to watch it again and again and again.
May have to go and watch it again now.

I've probably said before, but I bought my daddy a Red Dwarf baseball(style) jacket for Christmas 1990 (I think). He loved it. It had the Red Dwarf logo on the front and Starbug on the back. I was so flattered that he wore it, but he loved the show and was always too cool for school.

Ha! I just rewatched that episode ;p

I think new eps start airing in early Oct. Weekend after next I think.

Not sure what the deal is for showing outside UK as it isn't the BBC doing them now. Might need to find it online.

Gosh! they're... so OLD! I didn't realize it'd been so long.
The new series is going to be utter crap... and I'm going to love every second of it. Cause let's be fair, it was always pretty bad. except that by being so bad it was incredible.

Apart from being horrified at how old they all are, as above, I enjoyed it. Danny John-Jules is aging well I have to say.

For the first time I appreciated it as simply a sit-com. It ticked along nicely, the characters fell into their old roles and the storyline was quite predictable. Damning it with faint praise, but usually a sitcom has to be quite exceptional (imo) for me to bother to series-link it. Not so in this case. I expect to watch every episode and almost definitely laugh at it. It's not The League of Gentlemen, but neither is it Keeping Up Appearances.

It might even get a new audience who don't know the back-story, simply because it's still slightly different to other sitcoms. I'll have to run it past my nephew.
