RUSH! My friends are the ultimate RUSH fans, please help them win.

These friends of mine deserve a shot a meeting RUSH. Please indulge me in this little bit of shilling on their behalf and vote early and often! It would once again show the world that the awesome majesty of Teh Cellar is not to be taken lightly: yea ye shall have no other forum before me.

From the lovely and hilarious Caitrin:

Okay, folks. I know this kind of insistent campaigning may seem totally irritating and pointless and all those other horrible things, but this shit's getting real. Brian has made some warrior progress in the Ultimate Rush Fan rankings, but he only has until Sunday to overtake the few contestants currently ranked higher. I know there are many more globally worthwhile causes to promote. I know that Brian being given the opportunity to meet Rush means very little to most of you. But on an individual scale--on a lifelong-dork-for-Rush individual scale--this means the world to my brother (andmehisplusone). He deserves it. He's really short and kind of spastic. So he needs something good to happen. Thanks!

You can vote once a day per device:

HEY! Just in case I didn't make it clear all the other times: if my brother wins this contest, he and I will meet Rush. We will see Rush from the front row, and then we will meet Rush. Please vote, once a day per device, up through this Sunday. No sign-ups or gimmicks or lame business, unless you think Rush is lame, in which case there is some seriously lame business afoot. But still really important to us. Thank you. Love you all, probably.

do they count? I don't know, I haven't been able to see anything like a counter except the leaderboard.

If I'm reading the code right the vote button just redirects you to http://www.q1043.com/c/?7h&day=after. I imagine they are parsing their server logs to uniquely identify voters by ip.

Still I'm tempted to put curl into a loop on that url.

by ip *and* date, no?

and, since they say "one vote per device", I am likely to have multiple devices in my house and their local, private ip addresses are unique of course, but to the radio station they're all coming from my router's ip address, doncha think? If so, how would they accept two votes in one day from two devices inside my own home?

just thinking out loud here.

Taking your word for it that Caitrin is truly lovely and hilarious - and I'm totally sympathetic to the brother-needing-a-good-thing-to-happen concept. So I've voted, and will vote again until Sunday.

Indeed.

Right. Requests from cell networks would have another ip address. So I'm thinking that's what they mean by "device". Home network connection and then cell connections.

If they are just filtering by ip and date, they wouldn't. If they add other things like UA or OS then they might.

My point is that there is no form submission of any type. The "voted today" state of the page is only displayed when &after is appended to the query string. So it can easily appear that you're voting multiple times (different browser sessions, back button, devices), but with no live counter it's impossible to tell if your votes are counting.

I'm pretty sure Getty Lee is the biggest Rush fan. I mean when he sings.... he sounds *just like* Getty Lee.

OR, your friends could just head on out to Vancouver - I saw their name on the Amphitheater sign yesterday; they're playing with Bad Co. What a great bill!

The place isn't very big, shouldn't be that hard to get backstage, and I've got a spare bedroom.

Just sayin.

Please ignore the Bad Co. portion above - evidently I had an aneurysm while viewing upcoming concerts and mixed up the Lynyrd Skynyrd show with the Rush show. D'oh!

to be clear, it's bad company that is touring with lynyrd skynyrd, so there's no rush.
