Daddy > Dad

I was out on my porch this evening. The neighbors had a party that was letting out and the families were heading to their cars or walking up the block....

I heard one dad tell his wife he loved her, and a kid made a wretching noise. Dad retorted that he loved the kid too. Daddy, actually. The kid called him Daddy. Don't remember what he said, but the Daddy.

My kids call me Dad these days. 15 & 17, and that's appropriate. Still, I miss being Daddy.

They would sit in the window sill and wave as I left for work. Nowadays, I have to throw a fit to get them both to come to my house for 'my' Saturday night.

Sigh.

I know it's normal. I don't fault them.... But I miss being Daddy.

I am a good sponsor.... But that's not where I was going with this at all. Instant thread drift is instant.

Shaw, I would totally.... Something, something, but Amanda occasionally stalks my posts..... So I'll leave it at that.

Jim you are lucky with your kids and your Father. My Dad was born the 25 of July 1902. He passed away 26 May 1987.

I'm still Daddy to kids who are 24, 21, and 18. It comes from the inlaws. My Dad was Dad from our teens.

I can't remember when I stopped using 'daddy'. Pretty young. I'm pretty sure he was Dad from around the age of 5 or 6. Daddy is something that only very young children tend to say here - or very posh people.

At some point, I think in my 20s 'Pops' became one of his names.

My dad is still Daddy. My mom was also Mommy all the way until I had kids and they were calling me Mommy, and only then did it feel weird. Mom is still equally weird to me, in fact. Realistically I don't call her anything, I just say, "Hey." But dad will always be Daddy.

For my mum it's Mum, or Ma - occasionally Mam*.

* not to be confused with Ma'am which is what people call the queen, or other shortened forms of madame - it's more like the Irish mam/mammy and is quite common in a lot of the North of England

I'm dad mostly nowadays as my kids are 27, 25, 23 GASP! Sometimes my oldest son uses my first name when referring to me in the third person. That weirds me out - a lot.
I'm ALWAYS Daddy when my daughter wants something ....
and I melt every time.
