Triathlons
Do you do them? Have you ever done one? Tell me about it. Please. Especially the first one.

No. I don't.
But I know people who do. And I don't understand. The stories all sound so brutal. But I respect anyone who is able to do them and does them. |

I just fall into the 40-44 category, so it looks like I need to be doing the swim in about 20 minutes, the bike in 45 and the run in 35. I can do all of those. individually......
![]() and i don't want to be spending loads of money on new equipment and I know nothing about transitions. They hold a tri101 class for beginners, but it's not until April.

A work colleague of mine does them. I know about 5 or 6 people who do them every year, all military people, men and women. They all have told me that at one time or another, to be truly competitive it comes down to your ability to swim and the weight of your bike. Hence, if you want to be competitive you have to invest in one of those road bikes with tires the width of a pencil and the weight of two English Swallows carrying coconuts. They all swim with great regularity and run less than they swim. They bike more than the distance of the race one time per week and less distance at a fast pace 2 or 3 times per week. I am sure that there are a hundred training schemes out there. I respect all of them for participating.

I don't really want to be competitive. Not last will be just fine. Fortunately, swimming is my strength. Followed by biking. And my bike is half the weight of my old one. I'm certainly not buying a new one.

Did you know that no American has ever won the Olympic triathlon? Here's your chance to be a national hero.
