My pagan grandkids
I had 2 of my granddaughters over for a few days during the holiday and my son dropped by. The girls are 8 and 10 and my son, Brian is 28 and still single and a favorite uncle. He decided to embrace his Roman Catholic roots a few years ago and got confirmed and is an every Sunday and all the Holy Days church going guy which is funny because he was raised in a pretty non religious upbringing. My ex didn't go back to the Rosary until well after our divorce. My granddaughters have only been in a church a couple of times, mostly for weddings as the family pretty much doesn't do religion.
So we are all sitting around talking and the subject of Christmas comes up and the 8 year old says she thinks Christmas celebrates Santa's birth. My son rolls his eyes and after we have a laugh I suggest he give her the Christian side of the story and he explains about the birth of Jesus. After a few minutes Emily, the 8 year old asks why they invented Easter. Her sister suggests it's the Easter Bunny's birthday. My son really rolls his eyes this time. "No he says, Easter celebrates the death of Jesus and how he rose from the dead on the third day and entered heaven. The 10 year old asks if this was like something from "The Walking Dead" or Zombie Apocalypse?" My son gave up. ![]() |

It would be nice to tell them what it was intended to be about. That way they'll understand the nativity and other religious displays.

My family lived outside of New Orleans when I was 7- 17. I thought Easter was a week to make money. Even the Catholics had 8 Masses that day.
