Jan 13th, 2020 : Sitting Bull on the Dots

Artist Steven Paul Judd recently completed this incredible portrait of Sitting Bull using 20,068 dice.
Quote:
The Oklahoma-based Kiowa/Choctaw artist created this while an artist-in-residence at HixDesign. The work was unveiled on December 15th, 2019, on the anniversary of the famous Hunkpapa Lakota leader’s death in 1890.

I don’t know for sure but I’d guess a computer plotted out the dice locations from the photograph, then he tweaked it with the
artists eye till it looked right. That said I can’t figure out how he got some areas very white and some very black.
Looking at dice online shows an infinite rage of sizes from 5mm to 100mm but the ratio of cube color to spot color seem not to
vary that much. A 1 will show the maximum cube color and a 6 the maximum dot color but no sides show just one color.
Damifino?

By the way, the Lakota were also called Teton Sioux, probably by whitey, as they along with the Eastern Dakota and Western
Dakota made up the Great Sioux Nation.

The seven bands or "sub-tribes" of the Lakota are:
Sičháŋǧu (Brulé, Burned Thighs)
Oglála ("They Scatter Their Own")
Itázipčho (Sans Arc, Without Bows)
Húŋkpapȟa (Hunkpapa, "End Village", Camps at the End of the Camp Circle)
Mnikȟówožu (Miniconjou, "Plant Near Water", Planters by the Water)
Sihásapa ("Blackfeet, or Blackfoot")
Oóhenuŋpa (Two Kettles)

PS - Nice sweatshirt... uh, I mean hoodie.
