7/14: Pamplona festival ritual?

Yeah, I'm not sure what's happening here. It must have something to do with Pamplona, as it was on the Spanish version of Yahoo!, and it's bull-running time. |

Although it was only Steve's first day in charge of laundry at the Pamplona Red Roof, he was still executed for allowing a pair of red panties to slip into the men's whites.

**WARNING: Blatant Troll**
On the 176th day of the Bush administration, the New York Times (registration, blah blah blah) publishes yet another <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2001/07/15/national/15BALL.html">article</a> challenging the validity of the Florida election results.
Former Gore campaign staffers promptly take to the streets in protest. [Checking to make sure that asbestos underwear is in place.]

Because "htis" was "jsut" meant to be a humorous caption for "teh pic". Geez. Don't take yourself so seriously.

Now now, play nice you two...
Honestly, I think I know what this is. I vaguely remember something in connection with the Running where before the bulls are let loose, the participants have this giant tomato fight. A person tries to climb a greased-up pole and grab a ham placed atop it. When that happens, dump trucks just empty tomatos into the street and the people chuck them at each other. Again, this is a jumble of recollections, I am almost assuredly wrong. ~Mike

Michael
The greased pole thing is originally Italian, but they don't do it as often, and they're trying to grab a turkey. And the tomato fight thing is indeed Spanish, but doesn't take palce in Spain. I'm pretty sure it's in Central America somewhere. Steve ____________ Livin' off what little culture was taught in Spanish class |

Okay, I work with a couple of spaniards, and although we try never to trust them, I will this once because it's amusing.
As it has been explained to me, that is a BIG party, and they are all likely looking at the Town Hall building waiting for the signal to the start of the party which includes the running of the bulls. The signal is the third rocket to go off, like big fireworks. The reason they have the red hankerchiefs is because the traditional outfit of the region is white with a red hankerchief. It's kinda like us all dressing up like cowboys for a rodeo...although not exactly. Anyway, Juan explains that the red hankerchief is to stop the bleeding when you get gored, but more often it's used to clean up puke ![]() On another note, the spanish newspapers have a name for America/Foreigners that come to Spain to run with the bulls. It's "Bull Beacons". Ouch. dynamo |
