Damn man, you must have some serious disposable income!

Can't offer any expertise, but my wife has the digital rebel and it is pretty sweet.

'bout 2.5k for all that. Reasonable. I'm tempted by a few of the L series canon lenses but I'd rather keep it under 3k for now and most of those are like, 2 grand each.

I looked at the rebel but I went for the D10 for the much better construction (magnesium alloy) and the greater control, particulary the higher ISO settings. I'm looking for fairly durable kit, it might be coming with me across Russia as soon as june.

Huh, 2.5K for that doesn't seem bad. Very nice setup.

I've read the Canon firmware is hackable, but the wife put the fear of god in me on that idea.

FWIW we bought a 75-300mm EFS-II lense off Ritz Camera online, (rebel focal thingy makes it 420mm?) for just $225, it got bad reviews but we took a chance and it seems just fine.

Remember you're getting this from a powershot A60 user...my wife has the photo brains.

Yea I've heard of hacks for the 300D at least to try and enable features of the D10 with...limited success. I'm sure canon won't look too kindly on it.

Get the best Polarizer you can. The cheaper ones make the corners of the picture too dark.

Goddamn, I'm jealous! If I can only win that dang lottery...

But seriously, all I can say is that you made a good choice in choosing a Canon product. I have the original Canon EOS Rebel (no longer made, from what I understand), and it has served me well.

You look at what the pro's are doing and everyone is using Canon gear, it's just miles ahead of the competition. The D1 Mark II beats the fuck out of the Nikon D2H and the Canon still has noise issues and is way, way slower on burst. By all accounts with tweaking the D1s still produces better images and the D1s Mark II is expected soon but the D1 Mark II is more designed for the kind of stuff I'm going to be doing. Judging by the perorders though it won't arrive till about November =(

There's a great ad canon are running at the moment in some of the photo mags of a tournament agassi won with the photo pit, all the lenses are those distinctive white ones....
