Free State Project idea taken by hardass Xtians

Compete for cult followers by creating your own utopia! What could possibly go wrong?

A newly-formed group of Christian activists has begun plans to encourage up to 12,000 like-minded individuals to move to South Carolina. Their hope is to eventually withdraw that state from the United States and "reestablish the sovereign Christian nation of South Carolina."

I think somebody already tried this about 145 years ago. Didn't work then, either.

At this rate in 100 years the US will be so polarised by various hardarse groups grabbing different states there will be no united states.

What amuses me is I thin kthe difference between the taliban and a fundie christian state would be really quite minimal.

I'm tempted to let them make a go at it this time, but it wouldn't be fair to the sane people in the state.

I thought people were allowed to move wherever they wanted in the US. Did the rules change? Do we have to ask your permission now?

I think HMonkey was just showing consideration for the poor folks of SC who will have to endure the onslaught of bible bashing fascists sweeping through their streets.

I agree, it would suck to have this group move next door. But it's a free country. If people want to move somewhere, you can't really stop them. You can pass zoning laws and jack up the taxes to discourage an influx of people. But the bottom line is that people are free to move wherever they want to. As it should be.

Actually it could work. It worked for the Mormons. Now they control Utah, Nevada, and have a stronghold in several other states.

I guess I misunderstood your post. I thought your comment was directed at them moving to S.C. to establish a religious community.

I didn't realize you were talking about the pipe dream of secession.

I grew up in Nevada, and trust me when I say, the Mormon's are in control. They settled the valley before a single casino was built. Many are in management positions and political positions throughout the state. Ask anyone who has lived in Nevada for 20 years or more and they'll tell you it's true.

Agreed. And where these militant xtians go is not really the problem anyway, it's just that there would be so many of them in the same place, like a swarm of hungry bees, sucking the pure untainted honey from the golden combs of South Carolina. Or something.
