University Bans Affirmative Action Bake Sale...

...,Threatens Protestors with Punishment

April 5, 2005

FIRE Press Release
CHICAGO, April 5, 2005—Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) has warned the members of the College Republicans that both the students and the group will be punished if they hold a campus protest against affirmative action. The NEIU College Republicans canceled its planned “affirmative action bake sale” protest after NEIU’s dean of students warned them in an e-mail that to hold such a sale would violate NEIU’s “nondiscrimination” policy and expose the students to punishment. NEIU, which allowed a feminist group to hold a similar “pay equity bake sale” protest on campus, is the latest in a string of schools nationwide that have attempted to shut down these protests against affirmative action.

I want to have a sacred cow barbeque. whatever you want to protest -- bush, liberals, jesus, gays, blacks, whites -- make a sign and bring it to the party. we'll serve regular and veggie burgers, and cigarettes and pot will be handed out for your consumption/protest against. SUVs get free valet parking, recumbent bike riders drink free. We'll all carry our signs around for a couple hours, then have fun the rest of the night. I think the reflecting pool is a good place for this.

I doubt if the reflecting pool is a free speech zone. There probably isn't any in DC at all.

They seem to have a lot of free fire zones, though.

I'm sure the College Republicans expected and desired the sale to be banned. Now they get all the publicity without doing the work.

Nonsense. You are completely free to speak in favor of the following subjects:

1) Reducing the tax burden on the upper class.
2) Privatizing Social Security
3) Returning (Christian) religion to schools and government.
4) The need for strengthening the Patriot Act.
5) A Constitutional ban on gay marriage.

See...freedom of speech!

Non-discrimination policies are the biggest form of discrimination - that's just my opinion.
