If you all wouldn't mind, please keep my fiance Rhoda in your thoughts and prayers. She is currently in the hospital battling kidney and heart complications from Type II diabetes. She's in good spirits, but is climbing the walls from sheer boredom. Hopefully I'll be bringing her home Wednesday or Thursday. Gracias...

Smile Good news!

Rho was allowed to come home yesterday, as her kidneys and heart are functioning better now. She will need dialysis down the line, but hopefully not for some time.

And in other good stuff, I get to go home to St. Louis for a visit in 6 days! :-)

Inevitability comes sooner than expected...

Unfortunately, after her test results came back today, Rho found out that she will have to be hospitalized on Friday to begin dialysis. I was really hoping that she wouldn't have to start this until after the holidays, but her condition is growing worse...her doctors actually wanted to hospitalize her tomorrow. They are saying she will only be hospitalized overnight...and I certainly hope that is the case. She's scared as shit...who could blame her? Hell, I'm scared...

If there is any comfort either of us can draw from this, it is that: a) Dialysis can only help, and b) She will only be about 1000 feet away from our apartment at Frankford-Torresdale Hospital, instead of all the way down at Temple Univ. Hospital.

Once again, I ask for your thoughts and prayers at this time.

Thanks.

Keep ya chin up old chap - she'll be fine. Dialysis is not as scary as an operation - and you've got (i'm sure i can safely say this) the entire of the cellar behind you =)

Thumbs up update

Rho came home today, and is resting comfortably. Unfortunately, they had to perform surgery on Friday to insert a catheter into her neck for immediate dialysis. The fistula they implanted in November is not quite ready to use. Now, she has to go to dialysis 3 days a week, but she seems alright with it. In fact, she has to be at the dialysis center tomorrow morning at 6am.

Adding my own good wishes for you both. My father also had adult-onset, so it's genetically in my cards, too.

May the hand of The Lady be upon you both.

Hello. I just want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. I'm doing fine in my second week of dialysis. Haven't had too many problems. I had one incident where my pressure fell through the floor, and the nurse had to pump saline into me to bring it back up quickly, but other than that, my treatments have been fine.

My next step is to get onto the kidney transplant list, and hit my relatives up for a kidney.

Once again, thanks for your blessings. :-)
