But what's the deal with the tomato scare in the United States? Salmonella or something?

I've always been scared of tomatoes. I mean, come on ... fruit or vegetable? What's scarier than an identity crisis, particularly in an inanimate object.

I really only like 'em if they are smashed into submission ... spaghetti sauce, ketchup, or tomato soup. Stewed 'maters maintain too much tomato integrity for me, so it's not just about the cooking. In fact, I don't even like a chunky tomato sauce.

In other words, don't worry unless you're already immuno-compromised.

I like BLTs, but with contaminated tomatoes, and contaminated lettuce, hmmm.
Whoda thunk bacon would be the healthiest ingredient?
