Is Bolton an asshat? Is Bush doing the unthinkable? Will it rain tomorrow?

Yeah the title is stupid, but this thread will probably cover a couple of things, so it is appropriate.

the hacks on Air America are just as insane and idiotic as LImbaugh/Hannity & Co.

1) I was listening to Rhodes/Roads/Rhoads(sp) yesterday, and she is a freaking loon. i get it - GWB is the antichrist. oh wait, we don't believe in that, so he is a bad bad man. ok, got that. but she was going on and on about Bolton. I don't know a lot about Bolton, but what little i do know suggests he may not be the MOST qualified for that position. duh. but she was going on about how GWB had crossed the line with a recess appointment - on a guy who had been struck down twice. correct me if i'm wrong, but he never made it up for an up/down vote so that statement is a fallacy. she also was ranting about how clinton or any other reasonable, fairminded president wouldn't have forced a recess appointment on the country. but wait - didn't Clinton have upwards of 100 recess appointments? probably not as UN ambassador, i'm sure there were some positions that Reps felt were very important.

2) Again on Air America this week a couple of them have been railing on John Roberts. ok, he is fair game. but they weren't talking about him. they were ranting about his wife and her affiliations. they were ranting about the fact that he is catholic. i even heard them talking about the possibility that his son MIGHT be GAY! *gasp* the kid is 5. literally.
A) he is up for confirmation - not his wife.
B) he's catholic. that is no more relevant today than it was when Republicans were whispering about JFK's allegiance to Rome.
C) even if the 5 year old IS gay (how would we know) who cares? so is Cheney's kid, Gingrich's sister, Limbaugh's sister... yep, conservatives have gay family members too. they probably still love 'em too. maybe.

why the hell are these the issues we are focusing on? is there nothing else that we can dig up on the guy to fill the airwaves? isn't his view on States Rights, Privacy, eminent domain, the proper Philly Cheesesteak more important than these peripheral items?

For such a long question, the answer is quite short: abortion.

Democrats are losing territory with every election because they don't have any solutions to offer -- only opposition to whatever the other side is doing. Affirmative action is in its last throes, big labor is imploding, their foreign policy has been nonexistent for 60 years ("let's do whatever the UN tells us to" is not effective foreign policy), and conservatism is making inroads to ethnic communitites. The one area they still have a lock on is feminism. Abortion rights are central to that movement, and they will defend Roe like a mama bear over her cubs. /irony

Roe is the litmus test from now on. The other stuff is incidental.

edit: erm..is this thread about roberts or bolton? I'm cornfused

yes the thread is about Roberts or Bolton.

the thing is that abortion as a litmus test has been a nono for a long time. but from what i've read, i see no suggestion that Roberts would actually rule in favor of overruling RvW. against abortion? most likely. in favor of outlawing? i see no inclination.

Roberts will be confirmed easily. Most Dems don't have a problem with him, so far. Luckily, they have a few idiots like Kennedy, Durbin, and Schumer who can ask the embarrassing abortion questions and thus let themselves off the hook. But they still want to know.

It's like how we let Santorum fry for the "bombing Mecca" comment. We can safely distance ourselves from the heat source, but it's not like we weren't thinking the same thing.

1) Bolton is questionable at best.

2) Bush is a sociopath. He does 5 unthinkable things each day before breakfast.

3) Somewhere tomorrow, it will rain.

Gay Catholics sometimes know how to make a fine Philly Cheesesteak sandwich, especially if a 5 year old assists them.

Anything else I can help you with, Lookout?

Considering the bad behavior of the national Democratic Party, particularly since 2000, and in particular their collective unwillingness to keep the Republic, a recess appointment of John Bolton as US Ambassador to the UN is precisely what they deserve. Mindless obstructionism doesn't impress -- except as an indicator of whom never to give money to. Losing the war the minute they get the chance doesn't impress -- victory over tyranny just isn't in these people any more, and they won't get their soul back until it is. Socialism doesn't impress anyone except the lazy and the incompetent -- and socialist philosophies are a ball and chain fettering the Jackass.

"Sociopath" fits Ole Possum Head Clinton much better than it ever will GWB. Clinton's got a wife to match him -- both of them about three steps down the socio path. Clinton never had me fooled enough to vote for him. It will be my public duty and my exquisite pleasure to vote against her, if she is ever so unfortunate as to run for national office, just as it was for that dishonorable scrub Kerry.
