deer hunting opening weekend in Texas

well i guess my weekend could've started off a little better. not 5 miles from my farm i got pulled over by a state trooper for doing 74 in a 65 on hwy tx 80. he told me that he was going to write me a warning for speeding and my license plate cover, apparently they've been illeagal for about 2 years now. anyway, here's the fucked up part. "sir, have you been drinking?" me: "uhh, yeah. i've had two beers" so i got to do the sobriety dance on the side of the road. i had actually had only 1-3/4 beers so i knew i wasn't leagally drunk. in fact i blew for the first time and it was .02 so that was a relief. i actually thought he was going to arrest me right before he administered the breath test when he asked me to step over to his car. i gave out an "awwww MAN!?!" and he laughed and said i'm not arresting you.....during the pen test, the walk the line and the hold your leg up tests i was so nervous i was visibly shaking. he asked me "how the hell do you fly an airplane as nervous as you are?" i said "one, i'm comfortable in an airplane and when something goes wrong you don't have time to think about it. you just do it and worry later. and two, it's not every day that i have to do something like this!" my buddy that i met up at the farm told me i should of said "eh, i don't fly very well either" lol. anyway i got a citation for open container. i'll take that over lawyers and jail. i talked to my g/f this morning and she held back but i could tell she wanted to come unglued on my ass. anyway, back to hunting. woke up this morning and saw nothing. i hopped in the jeep and went to the shed to see if there was anything that needed to be done. after a little bit nature called and i was driving back to the house and murphy's law kicked in. i saw a very nice buck but was going too fast in the jeep to stop in time and throw up the old weatherby mark V 30-06 on him. why is it that when you have to shit is when you see the nicest buck in the county and can't do anything about it? well, there is this evening and tomorrow morning. until then, everyone have a great saturday!

Same thing in duck hunting , you peel down your waders , then your pants , then the thermal under wear , then your skivies , look up and your decoys are covered up in ducks !!! it NEVER fails !!!

It could have been worse, you could have lost your license, your rifle, AND your buck if you had been so anxious that you shot him from the car

Or don't they have that law in Texas?

[channeling garnet]Bambi killer...[/garnet]

The only thing worse than a bambi killer is a failed bambi killer with his drawers around his ankles...

I mean seriously.

no deer this weekend. but i did see several nice bucks. i'm out for spikes though, not tropheys. i did see across the river probably the biggest buck i've ever seen there. the antler spread was wide and about 6 points, maybe 8.
yeah, tonchi, you can't hunt from a moving vehicle but when i was pulled over i was on my way to the farm. not quite there yet. the trooper did ask to see my weatherby though, not to inspect it but to admire it.
bruce: ya figured out the secret!
and buster, where'd you get that pic of me from yesterday evenings hunt?

My daughter is out hunting with my Dad this morning - it's a beautiful day for it!

Selfishly, I am hoping she doesn't get one, because I want to be there for her first deer..... and I want to be hunting too.

And here I thought that in Texas, a DUI was mandatory in politics, and if you score high enough, they make you governor.

East Coast they count the points on one side.
West Coast they count the total on both sides.
What do they count in Texas?

Do you eat deer? What do you mean by your hunting for spikes?

I agree with Sparkz. You can't eat the points, it's the tenderloin you should be going for. When you are honest about it, trying to take home the biggest rack is just another form of comparing dicks for bragging rights. How many heads are you going to have mounted on the wall, anyway? The best deer I ever ate was one which my boyfriend found swimming across a lake in New Mexico to get away from some other hunters. They had to actually "escort" the deer ashore before they could kill it, and there was some discussion in the group as to whether it was even old enough to take because it just had prongs. But it definitely was delicious.
