Open letter to US Armed Forces members

Dear Sir, Dear Madam:

I would like you to know that you have my deep gratitude and constant support. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the sacrifice you're making. Your devotion to duty and your fidelity to your oath to the Constitution make me proud beyond words. You persevere in the most difficult and dangerous of circumstances, and even though you might hear otherwise from others and you don't hear it from me very often, your efforts are welcomed, appreciated and necessary.

I can't do your job, and honestly, I don't want to. But I'm glad you're doing it. I also know that those of us still at home have jobs to do too. The families of those in the service sacrifice along with you. They too have my support. Sometimes the families bear the burden of the loss of your comrades. We all feel that loss. My heart breaks when I learn of those killed. I cry alongside the families whose loved one have died.

And I have a job to do as well. My job is to know what is happening, to be observant. It is my job to understand the truth, and to obey the law. And to respect and care for my country the best I can, in my actions and my words. My job doesn't put me in mortal danger, but it is no less difficult and it is no less important. You set a fine example and a high standard and I solemnly pledge to match them both.

Thank you for your service. I am deeply indebted to you.
