Are you smarter than a fifth grader?

Anyone else watching/playing at home?
Lovin' this stuff.
I love how the kids get impatient with us idiot adults.

Adults try to answer questions from a fifth grade curriculum. You know, like "in the northern hemisphere, summer ends in what month?" The adults typically have a college education and are as smart as a box of hair, which is the entertaining part, I guess.

I haven't watched it. It seems too much like posing sports trivia to non-sports fans.

If someone asked me who won a particular year's World Series, I probably couldn't even tell you the teams that played in it. (The year it happened I might have been able to tell you.) Does that make me dumber than a 5th grader?

I think they should ask these 5th graders the same questions 15 years from now.

Here are two examples from the episode I saw:

What is the closest star to the Earth?

How many sides does a trapezoid have?

The contestant needed to use a lifeline for both.

For posing the question I now expect you to have an answer. And I warn you in advance it's a contentious issue!

They're not exactly competing against the kids, at least not for the prize money... the adults have to answer the questions, but they have a set of "classmates" (child actors--not just random kids) who also answer the questions separately, and the adult contestants have a limited number of opportunities to see what the kid thinks if they aren't sure of the answer.

I can't stand it. Mrs. Dallas has watched every episode, though. (I actually thought the last question on last night's episode was fairly hard--what geologic era are we currently living in?)

I have only seen one adult reach the fifth grade, most fail by the third and have to cheat off of the kids during the first and second grade. It is very sad, a train-wreck.

You have a choice of questions from first grade up to fifth in a variety of subjects, you can cheat off of, be saved by, peek at the paper of, the students (a group of actual fifth graders).
I read a lot and am into "nerdy" stuff I guess, the questions seem simple to me.
To have to struggle on things like "is the komodo dragon extinct" seems insane to me.

I, also, have yet to see anyone attack with a decent strategy.
Attack the higher grades, and preferred subjects of the kids (you can ask) first, that way you can cheat off of them first and get those questions out of the way while you can cheat off of the kids with those questions. Then you will have the easy questions while you are out of cheats.
If you listen, the kids are always yelling for them to ask these questions, but no one ever does.

My Dad believes summer ends when the days start getting shorter - that's in June (okay it's an affectation but he's my Dad)
Schoolkids believe it ends in September when the summer holidays finish and school begins.
British Summer Time (BST) ends in OCtober when the clock goes back.

I think it is clever marketing. Find some really smart kids and some really dumb as rock adults and put them on TV. Not a very hard thing to do.

This show is still less idiotic than 1vs100. People can't answer questions like "What charge does a neutron have - positive, negative, or neutral?"

The worst:
"How many 6-packs of beer would you need to have 78 beers?"
"Oh NO! I don't KNOW, I'm not a beer-drinker!"

I have lost all faith in humanity.
