Microsoft wants you to have a Windows 7 launch party

This is really, truly horrible stuff.

I'm not the only one who finds it cringe-worthy.

Thanks for sharing, dar.
Right now, I'm pissed that the ULI Raid controller chipset on my ASUS A8R-MVP mobo won't have drivers under 7. Apparently Nvidia bought ULI out, and deep-sixed that controller line. (For once, it's not Microsquash's fault!)

AND, my ATi Radeon graphics card doesn't have 3D support under Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty)... The closed-source fglrx just doesn't work with xserver 1.6 (thanks, AMD!) So I'm stuck with Intrepid unless I change cards.

So now I need two more cards for a four year old machine.

The fun thing about evolution (and science in general) is that it happens whether you believe in it or not.

I can't watch the vid at work, but I do have a question:

Will there be alcohol?

This makes me cringe

Why a launch party for an OS?

This should be used as a method for finding the kinds of people who would hold a party for something so lame and adding them to your "do not invite" list for your own parties.

What model ATI/AMD card?

I have a Dell Optiplex 320 at home. It has an ATI chipset and Intel processor. You can guess what happened when AMD bought ATI. Somehow I don't think 7 will run too well on it, even though Vista runs really well, despite the fact that I am running a Pentium 4 3.0 Ghz with 2 GB RAM.

I only use it for the work VPN and testing. I figure if it works well on there, it will work better on a dual or quad-core machine.

I don't think Microsoft can handle bacon. There might be spam.

It's based on the R600 chipset -- I don't remember the exact model. Maybe the HD2400? It wasn't a real fancy one, regardless.

I don't think Windows 7 is sexy enough to get anyone to come. <wink>

Well, especially if it's not even providing alcohol!

To make it easier for you Spexx, I've translated Pie's post to binary.:p

BTW, the video said to install Windows 7 'a couple of days' before the party and to call support if you have any problems.

I speak fluent geek -- from the software region. Hardware geek, and science geek are slightly different dialects.
