Baton Rouge court throws out gay-marriage ban

This should be fun to watch...

http://www.nola.com/newsflash/louisi...list=louisiana

But the judge, a Republican veteran of this city's drug court with a reputation for no-nonsense efficiency, rejected such appeals to "emotions," saying firmly: "This is a matter of law. Emotions do not, will not, play a part in this court's ruling."

The judge focused on the ban's third sentence: "A legal status identical or substantially similar to that of marriage for unmarried individuals shall not be recognized." Morvant said the sentence "constitutes a separate object, which requires a separate amendment."

"A legal status identical or substantially similar to that of marriage for unmarried individuals shall not be recognized." Isn't that double-speak? Wouldn't a legal status identical to marriage make the individuals in question married? And it doesn't say same sex individuals just "individuals." Does that mean Louisiana is not going to recognize that ANYONE is married?

No, lucky they're not in session. They do a lot less damn-age that way.

As a lifelong resident of Louisiana, a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, and a "Chronic" voter, my impressions are that ...

Perhaps they *are* as stupid and high-horsed as any politicos... Their religion depends on what side of the aisle. Either way their religion is "grand" and whore-shipped in a "high-falutin'" manner.

Do not get distracted by the approach and "high drama", there is another election soon and a chance for an offended group to vote 'en masse' and 'en raged' on a more effective ammendment as well as other convenient items.

[translation: this was intended; politicos on both sides are not stupid despite cultivated perceptions. Emotions move people to vote; some battles are sacrificed to win bigger wars. Politicians in La have more than 16 pieces of flair.]
