3/10: Homo Erectus reconstruction



Chilling, innit? Somebody made a decision to have him looking at you...

I have absolutely no information about this image. I saved it about two years ago when a web log (early in the web log phenomenon) pointed directly to it.

Homo erectus was actually really smart. It was the first hominid species known to actually use fire and hunt other animals.
H. Erecus was the first hominid to leave Africa -- possibly in search of new hunting grounds, as carnivores are wont to do. They were also supposedly hella tall, too. I believe my Human Evolution professor said they were something like 7 feet tall (memory fuzzy..but I think that's right). In contrast, Lucy's species was only 4 feet tall.

Now that I look at that shot again, that dude is really punk rock. I'd say he has a nice pair of stones, but they're shaded out so ya can't see em.
