Dermatology and Rosacea

I went to two "not great" dermatologists before I got this one. I have rosacea, right? And I easily get these little red veins that pop up on my nose and cheeks. It's one of the symptoms. And they don't go away. And after a long while of just putting up with them, or covering them with skin colored cream, I went to a dermatologist. The first two just gave me prescriptions that didn't really help change the current look of my face, I guess it just kept my face from getting red or breakouts. Anyway this current dermatologist has the electric needle that he uses. He stabs at the the red veins in my face and they shrivel up, pull back, disappear. Immediately! The first time I saw him he did this and it's EXACTLY what I wanted, I just didn't know it was that easy. I saw the improvement immediately. After two more trips all the visible lines (little red sprawling veins) were gone. Following that first visit I actually had tears in my eyes on the way home, that's how much they were bothering me. C'mon... it's my face, and I was very self-conscious.

Ummm... that's my story, not sure if anyone would read it, but I just got home from the dermatologist, and I still say that guy has a customer for life.

I'm glad it worked out for you. It's always nice to hear a good story about health care in this country. You hear so many bad stories, it's easy to forget what a good system we have.

The ones that were removed, are they gone permenantly? What causes new veins to show up? Can they do this for my freckles?

Congrats on finding a doc that actually cares for the patient, not the $$ from the appt. Working at a university with a med school (U of Iowa) I have met and worked with multiple pre med and med students. Sometimes it really scary who gets MDs. And we are supposed to be a good school.

Dunno what prescription you were on; I've had extremely good results with Metrogel. I know that there's other treatements involving laser or other high-intensity light that seem to work too. But it's good to hear that the electrolysis works for you.

Naturally Metrogel only knocks down an in-progress infection; the spider veins hang around and have to be dealt with as you have, or with laser, etc..

Rosula, Clenia, and metrogel, and a couple of medicated pad products I can't remember. They work well enough, if I remember to use them every single day. But I get lazy. Anyway... I like the electrolysis because it has an immediate effect.

They are gone permanently... well, most of them, follow up appointments take care of the remaining few stubborn ones. But new ones pop up due to alcohol, sun, exercise, spicy foods. All of which I get in abundance.

Anyway, I can handle the "redness" with the medications, but -- YAY for the electric needle. Don't think it would work on freckles though, but I'm not a doctor.

OH -- and, it's all covered by my health insurance! Yeah, baby!

It comes from knowing that you set a goal, and rose to the challenge. Strength comes from within.
