Second Life

So, does anyone here have a Second Life account? I know, I don't have much of a "first life" but it does appeal to the Neal Stephenson geek in me. I'm even thinking of buying land -- UT, how about SL virtual coffee shop called the Cellar (without any coffee)? Or we could just have a virtual Forks. For the non-area folks. Anyone?

I had one at one point. Do you know these two by any chance? Alayne is an old friend of mine.

Can't say that I do. But I'm relatively new to this. I'm also pretty shy; I have a hard time talking to people I don't know (but not in real life, isn't that weird?)
I'm currently listening to a couple of guitarists in a virtual coffee shop... It's fun.

Well, it always seems to come down to that, doesn't it? :-)

I took a really quick look at that Second Life place. Is this virtual world a place where you can imagine and pretend to be a totally different person? Where you can create a character of the opposite gender? So, how is that different than the Cellar?

Mostly because you can script things, make things, buy things...
All things be told, I still spend more time on the Cellar.

My post was more of a joke than anything else, because I did pretend to be a girl for the first year I was a Dwellar, but I outted myself as an imposter about a year ago. Same week as Deep Throat outted himself; talk about being upstaged.

The obvious difference is that The Cellar is a Text-Based Community with some pix, whereas the other place is more graphical, almost like being inside a Sims game. There are interesting advertising scenarios in a social game like that.
