Curt to Court?

Another hypocrite allegedly abusing his authority is in the news. Curt Weldon (r-PA) is being investigated by the FBI. Allegedly, he "used his influence to secure lobbying and consulting contracts for his daughter, two people familiar with the inquiry said Saturday."

In another note, Rick Santorum has taken credit for the IRS moving into the 30th street post office building - at a cost of about 80 bazillion dollars. And he's still advertizing about how the Democrats will raise taxes.

These guys are truly a pair of dickheads.

Republicans raise taxes far more than Democrats, but they make a big show of burning the bills as they come due, until the Democrats have to pay them.

As I understand it the charges against Weldon are the same as they were two years ago but couldn't be proven at that time. Now, the justice dept has a witness or two, so they asked the FBI to put it all together and build their case.

There's no doubt the timing of this information being leaked looks political.

Maybe the FBI leaked it, after they were set up, to spook Weldon/daughter/Sexton into trying to cover up, thereby revealing more or make the charges more serious?

I love the "politicizing, liberal conspiracy" stance all these guys take. Isn't the justice department part of the repubican executive branch of this administration? Sure, it's the Democrats fault.

You don't think the timing of the leak looks suspiciously political?
Of course that doesn't mean they are not investigating him or the original charges were untrue just because they couldn't be proven at the time.
It just means whoever made this information public, is a political foe.

Maybe they are trying to get him defeated to reduce his power in thwarting their investigation?

When Weldon says he had no idea there was an investigation, I have trouble believing him.

I think it would have been more politically devious to spring this immediately after the dude was reelected. At least, I think it would disillusion the maximum number of swing voters and make it more likely that the seat could be obtained by an opposing candidate.
Either way, I think its a lot of fun watching these grafting scumbags get theirs in the keester. I can't wait for more of the cars on the Gravy Train to derail in flames.

I guess no more than the John Street investigation/leak just prior to the last Phila Mayoral election. I maintain it's less likely due to party affiliation - Curt is one of the guys weilding the power in Washington.

Hee hee - 'Spode said "in the keester".

I think it is indirectly political. When it started to look like the Republicans might lose control, a lot of investigators got their backbones back.

Yes it does look like the fortress is starting to crumble.

Only if you're confident of a conviction. If it turns out to be bogus, maximum advantage is gained by smearing before the election.

I made the mistake of contacting my Congressmen about some issues. Now I have been placed on their campaign mailing lists. I received this today from the Weldon campaign.

Quote:
Even still, the facts remain the same
  • In 2004, the House Ethics Committee declined to investigate these allegations and closed the case.

  • Now 3 weeks before the election, the left wing, liberal attack machine has launched a coordinated effort to smear Congressman Weldon and his family in a desperate attempt to steal this seat.

  • Unfortunately, this smear campaign is a reaction to a two and one-half year old accusation from the partisan political chop shop, CREW, whose Vice President is one of the single largest contributors to Curt's opponent.

  • Curt Weldon has done nothing wrong other than take strong positions against entrenched Washington Bureaucracies, such as CIA and the State Department, which has created strong enemies.
Now as to item #1, I haven't seen an organization as pitifully toothless as the House Ethics Committee, which has a tendency to dump members who actually appear to care too much about enforcing ethics rules.

Item #4 implies that Curt is a crusader who is under attack by CIA bureaucrats. Since most of the CIA leadership are Bush appointees, I fail to see the logic there.

BTW, I love this phrase. Talk about an oxymoron "left wing, liberal attack machine has launched a coordinated effort". Coordinated liberals?

Every day another story on this. This morning it's Washington Post, pretty damning stuff.
Weldon's Ties to Serbian Businessman Part of Probe
Quote:
Officials at the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade were surprised three years ago to be invited to a luncheon in honor of visiting Rep. Curt Weldon (R-Pa.), hosted by Bogoljub Karic, a wealthy Serbian businessman who had been barred from visiting or trading with the United States because of his close ties to former Yugoslav leader Slobodan Milosevic.

Weldon "was visiting solely because of Karic," whom he was trying to get off the U.S. blacklist, a former senior embassy official familiar with the visit concluded. "It seemed odd" at the time, because Karic had no obvious tie to Weldon's district outside Philadelphia, and Weldon should have known the embassy was shunning contacts with him, the official said.

What the embassy apparently did not know is that the Karic family that year signed a contract with Weldon's daughter, Karen, and a business partner that called for monthly payments of $20,000 for "management, government and public relations," according to a copy of the March 2003 contract. In all, the family paid Karen Weldon's firm $133,858 that year for efforts she undertook to set up a foundation for it.
Fuck him, frankly, and thanks to the Ds for running a very strong candidate to oppose him this year.

I think the Dems have been conjuring black magick on the poor, innocent Republicans in order to lead them astray. Yet another liberal magickal ploy in the service of their leader, Satan.
