A Thanksgiving, to our servicemembers.

It's about time we said thanks this year to all our armed servicemembers, present and former, US, UK, or other... we've some Baltic-littoral correspondents, I believe?

They do some very hard things, under circumstances that sometimes range from difficult to impossible, for the rest of us.

I'll second that since the job they do is often lost in our own opinions of whether they should be there or not.

It's not up to a soldier to decide if a war is justifiable. We send our soldiers to fight, it's up to us to decide whether the war is just.

I have nothing but admiration for and pride in our troops. Being against the war is not the same as being against the troops who fight it.

One of the things that we, as a people, have pretty much figured out is that there is a difference between the people we send to fight a war and the government policies that end up with them being sent there. I haven't heard of a single incident of anyone spitting on a returning serviceperson since the Vietnam Era ended, and I damn well hope I do not.

Our Armed Forces serve us ably, honorably and dutifuly. For that, each and every one of the men and women who so serve have my unending gratitude and admiration. Here's to Peace on Earth, so you may someday serve with distinction and retire intact.

Thanks to all who serve their country.

No disrespect meant to anyone in the military by this post, but I would like to extend my thanks to anyone working in the health service or in teaching.

People in all three areas are doing a job that can consume you 24-7 (depending on your ability to switch off) and all three can find themselves in situations where the value of the work exceeds the pay they receive.

They all know what they are getting into before they start a contract, they obviously follow a calling. But it's work I personally couldn't do.

Good luck and thanks to everyone who works behind the scenes to ensure civilisation means what I have come to expect.

Darn right. The guys who hold the sharp end have nothing to do with the idiots who point them. Thank them for defending our Constitution.
