Rest In Peace, Mr Walsh
Coach Bill Walsh passed away yesterday.
I grew up in a football family (American football, natch.) My mom is a huge Browns fan, dad loves the "Bengies." Both brothers played HS football, and older brother played in college and coached at that college while getting his master's degree. In our section of the world HS football games (and the dances after home games) were one of the big social events. I, however, really fell in love with football when I watched the 49'ers of the early 80's. To me, it was poetry in motion. I was head over heels for Joe Montana, who was a class act. Coach Walsh, too, was a class act. Thanks for the memories, Coach Walsh!

Wow - I just found out about his passing at lunch. As an Eagles fan this guy seemed to tear us up every year, but I alway respected him. He was a total class act and very creative in both style and scheme.
- major bummer Football lost one of the great ones - RIP. |

Having suffered through a terrible team (the football Cardinals), then having no team at all (after they left in 1988), the Niners were one of the teams I started following (along with the Packers, who were absolutely awful at that time). George Seifert was the coach when they handed the Broncos their asses to them in Super Bowl XXIV, but Walsh helped put that team together. For whatever reason, that game sticks out in my head...55-10, Niners. Good times.
RIP, Coach. |
