claiming he was kidnapped in order to avoid getting in trouble with his wife after staying out all night with friends.

Shortly after 11 a.m., Rivas allegedly told investigators that he was bound, forced to drink transmission fluid and left in the trunk of his car abandoned under a river levee bridge near San Miguel. But eventually Rivas admitted the tale was a hoax to cover up after hanging out with three friends, two of whom are women, investigators said.

Investigators said Rivas allegedly struck his head against the side of his car and poured transmission fluid on himself to look like he was roughed up by the kidnappers.

A 31-year-old man, has been arrested and charged with false alarm or report. His bond has been set at $5,000. . .

At about noon Thursday, Doņa Ana County Sheriff's Department deputies found Rivas in the desert disoriented with minor injuries. Rivas allegedly told deputies he was tied and left in the trunk of his car underneath a river levee bridge on New Mexico Highway 192 near San Miguel . . .

The fabricated story caused the several agencies to respond and assist in the search, and also disrupted residents in the Canutillo area, he said. "We are not going to tolerate the abuse of the 911 system," he said.
