Roadside assistance: AAA Alternatives?

are there any?

as a gurrrrl who can't change a tire (don't yell, please) I need some type of roadside assistance. But the last time I called AAA, they told me I'd have to wait 2 hours. In the 100 degree sun.

fuck that shit.

Any better alternatives out there that you know of?

pretty much any service you call will use the same shitty tow truck companies to respond to your call. They just contract local companies.

You can sign up but I think they require a 10-step process to change it.

Yes, my mom has Triple A. They are supposedly the best of the worst, I would stick with them cloud.

I have had two road service companies over the years ... the one through Texaco/Shell and more recently (for about the last 6 years) the one through Allstate.

I have had good experiences with both.

The only reason I don't have AAA is that they do not consider two adults who are unmarried living at the same address as as "family" under their definiation. Because I wanted coverage for both myself and my mother, and didn't want to pay for two separate adult memberships, I told them to pound sand.

Ditto. I've been an AAA member since I got my license. Just one tow and it pays for itself. Plus they have discounts on all kinds of things and nifty free travel maps and guidebooks.

Some credit cards offer it too, and I think our insurance company had a road service deal. But like LJ said, they mostly just contract local tow companies so it's not going to make much difference.

I've only ever used the roadside assistance that came with the warranty on my jeep. The guy was quick but annoying (he was sure I had a dead battery and insisted on trying to jump start it even though it clearly wasn't the problem - turns out out was the starter, also covered under warranty).

What he said, and to add: AAA is the biggest, so you're probably only likely to increase wait time with a smaller one that doesn't have so many towing companies on the books.

There is an option.

It's called Boyfriend inc. The fees are quite low, unless you find fellatio unpleasant.

More serious car issues might require you to consider Hubby corp. The fees are more regular.

:p

Down under, we have a bunch of state-based services which are amalgamated nationally. They've always been pretty quick and helpful for me.

Oh yeah, sometimes I'd rather pay for the help than having to put up with the grumbling that is part and parcel with 'free' hubby help.

I'd happily trade fellatio for car help.

okay, that sounds very prostiTOOT-y, doesn't it?

truly, I'd give it away for free.

okay, that just sounds whorish. hmm.

No it doesn't. It's only whorish if you charge. For free just means you're generous.
