Conversion to Digital TV: the Final Act

Television stations need not turn off analog transmissions next week as originally planned. However some 500 stations, marked in red, will complete the conversion anyway. The list is grouped by metropolitan region at The 500 stations .

I read there are 17.7 million ( I presume households, not people, but they weren't specific) will be affected by the change. They've certainly had plenty of warning.
Every other country bigger than the Netherlands, that changed over, did it by sections.

One of our local affiliates said they were going to switch over as planned anyway. For some reason, that was nixed.

I think that's stupid. It probably costs the station a LOT of money to not go with what has been planned all along, because people "didn't know" about it. How could you NOT know? It's only been on everything everywhere for over a year now.

Same reason why bankruptcy must be implemented. Only threats of reality can get some people off the pot - be it an executive in GM or a television viewer. Anyone not yet ready for the transistion that was planned back on the mid 1990 simply needs threats as severe as bankruptcy to finally do it.

True. Students rarely respond to letters warning them of repercussions to their financial aid, until the bursar's office sends them a bill. They never get the previous 4 letters outlining what they need to do to rectify the situation.
