My best knee
The other has a torn ACL. Anyway, The 22th AM I had a small pain in my knee, which I thought was rain on way. That afternoon I had a flu shoot. Next AM I was up at 3 with pain. 23rd I changed my house around for cool weather. Many trips up & down stairs. Some sleep that night. Next night was pure hell. About midnight I got in recliner w/heating pad and dozed a little, went to bed at 5 Am and Shine called at 8:30.
Some horse liniment from feed store and ace bandage, now all be well. Am wondering if was flu shoot or a piece of calcium popped off in joint? Boy it's great to be "almost old" ![]()

Sorry Buster. I have no idea, but I'm sorry to hear of the problem. It sucks when you are in so much pain you can't sleep. You posted this last night. How did the night go? Could you sleep?
Horse liniment? That's good to know. |

My educated guess: You have one bad knee. Over the course of time you favor one knee over the other and accelerate arthritic changes in the "good" knee. All the up and down with preparing your house agravated the good knee. Rest and NSAID's should help. Btw, ice is always better than heat for joint pain and swelling.

Always go with ice. A bag of frozen peas or corn is the bomb if you don't have a formal ice bag. Just put the bag right on the affected knee with not more than a thin cloth to cover the skin. It is a bit hard and painful at first but gut through it till it starts to get numb and then you are there. It will help a lot. Oh, and keep it elevated while icing it.

RICE
Rest Ice Compression Elevation But be careful of horse liniment. I hear it's a gateway drug for PCP.

Here I go again. After talking w/my Dr. last visit, she suggested gout. After research on web, I believe she's right, not that it makes it feel any better.
Still waiting for her to enlighten about last 2 blood test. Here's what I sent her The 11th. I'm trying to reconcile the numbers for lab results from 9/04/08 and 1/26/09. First page looks ok. Second page. MCV and MCH is somewhat better, but M% is up 11 points. B% is still 0. Third page. EGFR has dropped from 78.7 to 64.6 Can you shed any light on this? Perhaps my on/off lifestyle changes are responsible for the changes?

I believe for localized episodes of gout the diagnosis is mainly a clinical one. Some lab values may help but they are not diagnostic in and of themselves. I have seen things like serum uric acid, and other markers of inflamatory disease measured. MCV and MCH I have not seen as a marker for gout.
Here is a good website for general lab values. But keep in mind that a single lab value is not diagnostic and you should consult your physician for the best diagnosis of your clinical condition. http://www.gribbles.com.my/commontest.html

Thanks Merc. Best site I've seen, and I've spent a good bit of time trying to understand the numbers.
Knee is hot and I'm running a fever. Going to be a long night. If fever is still high in AM, guess, bad as I hate to, will go to VA Jackson. My Hiatal Hernia gave me fits last Saturday, now my knee. Must be falling apart? Old age is great. Not.
