ouch
I had my teeth worked on today. By a Mexican dentist. All in all, I have no complaints. He did a good job, I have only an ache, not throbbing pain. And the price was right. I paid $3300 for a root canal, three cavities, and crowns on all uppers and three lowers. Billed to my insurance. Yes, I will have to pay up and file a claim but I think they'll pay...the same procedures in the US would have cost over twice that.
I saw a lot of soldiers in formation on the way in but none on the street where I was. No murders but all the mercados were closed. The pharmacies and dental clinics were about the only things left open. And they had door wardens that only unlocked the door if you had an appointment. The dental clinic is "in the family" and the price was more than reasonable. One lower crown came off but they will fix it free first thing tomorrow. I'll be off the roads until Monday due to the pain pills. They even provided a translator (I brought my own anyway) and a free shuttle service to and from my house. What's not to like? They didn't even give me any static when I insisted on general anesthesia, they just said it'd be another 30 minutes until the doctor came in. For $200 extra, it was worth it! I'm SUCH a wimp when it comes to dentists! Anyway, I'm going to pay the extra and have the rest of my lowers crowned when the time comes...makes em all even ya know! Brian

That is a good price, as long as it is good work.
My hubby just had 3 extractions, 10 surfaces filled - 6 teeth I think. (yes I know, the man should see a dentist more often...sigh) and they knocked his a$$ out for 5+ hours to do it. They called it conscious sedation so they could do it in the office instead of the hospital. It cost $3280 before insurance... $657 after. He still has a root canal to do yet...sigh |

Glad for the Indian genetics with the good teeth! I didn't go to a dentist for 16 years; only aftereffect: 1 cavity, and a 30-minute cleaning.

Seems like good work to me but what do I know?
I'll reserve final judgment for after the permanent crowns are on and a week or two have gone by.

But wouldn't the children of Indian Indians who naturalized also be American Indians? Or does it have to be Asian-American? American-hyphen-Indian. If anyone's really trying that hard. Indian-hyphen-American if you'd rather try that hard in the other polarity.

I like Cheyenne-American. 'Cause I am. The Sioux, I believe, referred to themselves as humans, and 'white men' as white men.

Isn't there some historiographic support for the Sioux calling us palefaces the "you can't get rid of thems?"
The funniest graphic I ever saw about any of this was a political cartoon back when some professional Injun was kicking up a fuss about how disrespectful he thought that cheerful Cleveland Indians baseball mascot had to be: it was a picture of a thoroughly ethnic Navajo grandpa sporting a ballcap with the mascot done blond and blue eyed. Both of 'em grinning. Chief Wahoo and the Vicissitudes

I, for one, am sick of all the political-correctness hooey. I would not have phrased it that way, but what's wrong with saying "feather or dot?" Are the Native Americans embarrassed to wear feathers/have ancestors who did? Are the India-Indians embarrassed that some wear dots? I'm part "Native American" myself (a term I also think is stupid anyway, because I was born here and therefore aren't I "native" anyway? Everyone's ancestors came from somewhere, even the "Native Americans" in the way, way, way distant past) and it certainly doesn't offend me.
I am sick of having to dance around whatever the currently favored term is, every time I want to describe someone. Like a black person. Can't call them black. Can't call them "African-American" because not all of them are, some are from other countries and some are just "African." I have a white friend who is African. What do you call them? "People of color?" "Dark-skinned?" I give up. Don't call me short. Call me "vertically challenged." ![]() |

I had a friend in LA who used to get offended at being black or African-American. he would state proudly, I am Ethiopian.
