Oct 25, 2009: Horses Inside Out

Gillian Higgins is a physical therapist, horse lover, and a smart cookie. She figured out, people could get more performance from their horses and ponies, while causing less injuries, if they just understood how a horse works.

She came up with the idea of painting the skeletal & muscular systems, right on the horse. That way people could see, and understand, how the inner parts were working together when the horse moves. Bringing textbook pictures to life.
Told you she's a smart cookie.

HORSES INSIDE OUT offers Equine Lecture Demonstrations giving a fascinating insight into how the horse works.

Examines applied equine anatomy, biomechanics and physiology. This is a serious subject presented in an interesting and informative fashion. Painting the skeleton and musculature on the side of horses really helps to bring this subject to life.

Lecture topics include:

How the Horse Moves
Pilates for Horses
Dressage from an Anatomical Approach
Jumping from an Anatomical Approach
Biomechanics and the Competition Horse
The Muscles and Skeleton in Motion
Training from the Inside Out
Warm-up for Performance
The Practical Application of Anatomy and Physiology
Avoiding and Understanding Back Problems and Athletic Injury
Massage and Passive Stretching for the Horse
Structure and Movement for Therapists
Much better than waiting until the horse goes lame, then lifting the hood, shaking your head, and calling triple-A.
