Limbaugh sticks foot(ball) in mouth

Everyone's favorite radio hate monger is now trying to buy the Rams, but success has eluded him in this endeavor. In fact his own words are coming back to bite him in the ass, as well as nip his apirations in the bud:

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell Tuesday spoke out against Rush Limbaugh at the NFL owners meetings in Boston, in all probability putting to bed the conservative talk show host's bid to become a part-owner of the Rams.

Goodell said he is sensitive to complaints from African-American players, stemming largely from controversial remarks Limbaugh made in regard to Donovan McNabb as a panelist on ESPN's Sunday pregame show six years ago, as well as on his nationally syndicated radio program. Opponents feel parts of his commentary are racially charged, and Goodell seemed to agree.

Yes, Goodell that bastion of concern and ethics. Limbaugh is a douchebag but if he has the money and a team wants to sell he should be able to buy it. Any player who says they won't play on a team simply because of the owner stating McNabb was overrated is a liar. They'll play as long as the checks keep coming.

And if not, then I guess Limbaugh gets to fill his team's roster with other players, who may be more motivated and glad to play on a Limbaugh-owned team.

Rush doesn't "hate" anybody. I've heard his show form time to time. I even saw his short-lived TV show once or twice. It was funny, not a news show but a vehicle for poking fun at politicians.

And whether or not you like it, his comments from six years ago were true...Donovan McNabb IS overrated and gets far too much credit for the QB spot when I think he's be better as the noseguard. Other players carry the team for his cooked eyesight.

Wouldnt this make Limbaugh a socialist?

Given than about half of all team's income is from the shared TV revenue contracts....an equal share regardless of market size.

I think it probably goes beyond Limbaugh's single comment about McNab and perhaps Goodell is more concerned about the fact that he spews controversial rhetoric on a regular basis, which is fine for his show but could bring unwanted negative attention to the NFL.

The NFL, with its anti-trust exemption, is also basically a private club and there is little or nothing to prevent current club members from using whatever criteria they want to determine if they will allow a particular person as a new member...and they tend to shy away from controversial figures.

When Limbaugh made his remarks, McNabb had been starter for three out of his four seasons. During those seasons, the team went 11-5, 11-5 and 12-4, going to the playoffs all three years, and going to the conference champsionship once. The year Limbaugh described him as overrated, the team went 12-4 and went to the conference championship. The following year they went 13-3 and lost to the cheating Patriots in the Super Bowl.

During that time, McNabb was a unique running quarterback with remarkable talents. He'd make the highlight reels every week with his amazing tackle-dodging to rescue busted plays. And almost all the WRs he ever had were average. When he finally got a star #1 WR, T.O., they went to the Bowl.

So it would be difficult to overrate the guy. If they said he was awesome, they were correctly rating him.

Rush isn't a racist. Rush is race-obsessed. It's something he thinks about too much. It's poor character; this is 2009, he should just get over it.

The owners should let him in. He can field an all-white team - I'll bet there's a niche for that.

Looks like he is getting the bum's rush:
Quote:
Rush Limbaugh is expected to be dropped from a group bidding to buy the St. Louis Rams, according to three NFL sources.

Dave Checketts, chairman of the NHL's St. Louis Blues and the point man in the Limbaugh group attempting to buy the Rams, realizes he must remove the controversial conservative radio host from his potential role as a minority member in the group in order to get approval from other NFL owners, the sources said.

Limbaugh is a carbunkle on the ass of humanity. Someone needs to lance him. However, he's a reflection of society. Otherwise, he wouldn't be popular.

People need to despise other people. We need for someone to be inferior to us, stupider, lazier, bigger liars, cheaters, thieves. We *have* to have someone to hate. There's a huge market for it, and Rush is selling, baby. Without a Them, there is no Us.

If there was big money to be made in espousing peace and love on the radio for fifteen hours a week, that's what he'd be doing.

He disgusts me. He's a racist and a sexist.

Feminism was established to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream.

I'd like to see Rush playing on the field. Now that would be worth watching.

Being from St. Louis, and being a horribly-suffering Rams fan, this has obviously been big news here. And here is my take on the situation...since I'm sure you're all DYING to know!

Rush was going to be the money behind Dave Checketts, whose company owns the St. Louis Blues. Checketts is well-liked in St. Louis...he may reach loved status this year, depending on how good the Blues wind up being. I supported Rush being an owner...he's obviously a good businessman and he's passionate about football. And he's from Missouri. And Checketts wants to keep the team here. w00t!

Having said that, even Rush's biggest fans have to admit that he's a freaking powder keg. He has said some pretty controversial things over the years, and IMO, some people are rightfully concerned with him being an owner in the NFL. Once DeMaurice Smith spoke against it, I was pretty certain it was a dead deal.

The whole slavery quote thing...no one has been able to provide evidence of this quote. Is it possible that he would say something like that? I think so...but there's nothing out there yet showing this. And people using that quote are wrong in doing so...especially since there are plenty of other ones to use.

Rush's opponents don't need to make anything up to find something stupid and offensive that he's said. There's thousands of hours it recorded somewhere.
