In February, I went to my doctor to do just that...I asked for a prescription to Prozac. However, just about that time, I started taking omega 3 fish oil supplements AND the sun started staying out longer...I ended up not needing the Prozac.

Absolutely what UT says.
You wouldn't think twice if it were asthma drugs, would you? Your symptoms are worse, the drugs control them - go for it. Absolutely.

I agree. If they help, then get them. The stigma around anti-depressants is partly due to the over-use of them for people who don't need/won't be helped by them. Then again, some people over-use aspirin and paracetamol: doesn't mean someone with a headache shouldn't take them.

If you need them - you need them. God knows I've thought about them a time or two... or threety... times.

If you work for the State or the Federal Government - they should be requisite to the job. Personally, I think they should have coffers situated in various places throughout the workplace of all Government Offices. Prozac, Xanax and Paxil should be in vending machines.

It's those voices for me... they never shut up.

Why antidepressants don't work for so many.

Quote:
More than half the people who take antidepressants for depression never get relief. Why? Because the cause of depression has been oversimplified and drugs designed to treat it aim at the wrong target, according to new research from the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. The medications are like arrows shot at the outer rings of a bull's eye instead of the center.

A study from the laboratory of long-time depression researcher Eva Redei, presented at the Neuroscience 2009 conference in Chicago this week, appears to topple two strongly held beliefs about depression. One is that stressful life events are a major cause of depression. The other is that an imbalance in neurotransmitters in the brain triggers depressive symptoms.

Both findings are significant because these beliefs were the basis for developing drugs currently used to treat depression.

"There hasn't been an antidepressant based on a novel concept in 20 years."

Her findings are based on extensive studies with a model of severely depressed rats that mirror many behavioral and physiological abnormalities found in patients with major depression. The rats, after decades of development, are believed to be the most depressed in the world.
Interesting article - It would be absolutely revolutionary if we can really target the true cause and create a treatment...

I find nothing motivates me quite like cannabis.

Admittedly, it's a non-focused, somewhat hyperactive, undiscerning, indiscriminate, and free-associative motivation. But I can clean the back of the fridge like no one's business.

Damned handy if your task for the day is trawling through page after page of digitised newprint, looking for references to 'desertion'.
