No Student loans with Chrome or Safari

You can use Firefox, or Internet Explorer (I checked), but not Safari or Chrome, to sign into the Studentloans.gov website. I don't know why.

Don't get me started on the new website. It has caused more problems as they work out the bugs. This has been a big headache for me the past week.

BUT, when it's running it's really so much better for students than the old sites. It took mandating everyone go to direct lending for them to give it the attention it needed, but it's really nice, when it's working.

I didn't know about the browser issue. Thanks for the info, I might need to know that!

Ha ha ha. Because, no matter how cool and trendy and hip you want to act, Internet Explorer by Microsoft is how you do any kind of serious business. Have fun whining about your superior web browsers that the cool kids use!

Humorously enough, back when I upgraded to IE 8, my (rather small) mortgage company's website stopped working. I called them, and they confirmed that yes, the site wasn't coded properly to work in 8.

"Are you planning on fixing it?"
"No, not really. Maybe eventually. But for now you should just use Firefox."

How does that happen? srsly - I just don't get it. Is there some reasonably simple explanation?

Yah, chrome denied me text edits the other day. Fail. I was pretty happy with it, and then....Epic Fail. At work.

Excellent! Now that I've switched to Chrome I can stop paying my student loans?

Righteous.

Srsly, though. Do I really have to repay those loans?

Who told you to upgrade to IE8? If what you were doing was working previously, go back to IE7. Anybody in any IT department anywhere will tell you the same thing (go back to IE7), unless they are so overstaffed that they are literally sitting around twiddling their thumbs so many hours out of the day that they have nothing better to do but be a beta site for a browser that will undoubtedly undergo many, many patches in the near future.

Update from fsa listserv:

Quote:
In an April 9, 2010 Electronic Announcement on the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site, Federal Student Aid provided an update on browser compatibility for the new StudentLoans.gov Web site. Currently, Internet Explorer 6, Internet Explorer 7, and Mozilla Firefox 2.0 are the browsers that have been certified for use with the StudentLoans.gov Web site.

Federal Student Aid is in the process of certifying Internet Explorer 8 and Mozilla Firefox 3.6.3. Until the process is completed, users may experience minor display issues when using these two browsers.

Federal Student Aid is also working to further expand the list of supported browsers and will inform the community and Web site users once it completes the certification process. The most current versions of Apple Safari are in the process of being certified.

The last time I allowed IE to update, it corrupted my computer.
