I spent much of yesterday watching the towers fall over and over and over (History Channel ran a marathon, including the videos that are probably hardest to watch ... footage shot by average New Yorkers including their own commentary).

I know I shouldn't do that.

I was hearing music from outside all throughout, and remembered that it was township day. I live near the township park where the festivities were occurring, so I walked over to check things out.

As dusk was looming, they pulled two ladder trucks nose to nose and started assembling some kind of framework. It took a while until I figured out what they were doing. By the time I thought to take pictures it was pretty obvious.

There was a bit of speechifying honoring police, fire, EMS and military personnel, a 21 fireworks salute, and a teary playing of taps as the colors were struck. Surprising how few people stood for the raising and lowering, although there was a spontaneous singing of the Star Spangled Banner.

And then fireworks.

Loved not having to wait for the parking lot to clear out, just sauntered home.

That's why I decided to avoid it, in IOtD.
That was a nice tribute, not just to the cops/firemen/medics lost on 9-11, but all of them, risking it all everyday.

Was it called 102 Minutes That Changed America?
I watched that.
It really brought it home to me in the way no other footage or documentary has. I suppose because I finally realised how it affected people not otherwise involved.

It was awful, but I'm very glad I watched it.

Somebody's going to pay for this, and we don't care who.

Yes, that was the one. Calling it intense isn't strong enough.

I couldn't watch.

I'm a wuss - I know - but it is too much.
