Fifty Shades of Grey

What is so great about this book? Has anyone here read it? They make sound like 9 1/2 Weeks. I read somewhere that it is outselling Harry Potter in the UK.

Is the target demographic women?

I want to know too. Everyone is reading it or has read it. It's amazing how many people have read it, mostly women. I don't know of any men who have.

I'm trying to guess too. Is it just one step beyond a Romance novel?

I don't think that I'm going to be spending 10 bucks on something like that. If I really want to read woman's point of view porn involving a rich guy, I'll read this for free.

I read somewhere that it began as a Twilight fanfic. I would never bother to read it because there is TONS of that kind of thing for free on the internet.

Can straight slashfic still be called slashfic? This is something Cloud would have been able to answer, I bet.

It occurs to me that men should be taking advantage of all these warmed up women.

I've heard it's poorly written and repetitive. It could do with editing down to a third of the length. Apparently there are three pages spent by the herione deciding whether to wear her hair in a ponytail or not. And other similar examples I haven't committed to memory.

I'll read it in September, when my colleagues have finished it. Can't say I'm frustrated by the wait

And yes, slash can be hetero. The slash is just to separate the names of the protagonists. I find the M/M pairings much more exciting though. Some of the fanfic I have read for free online has been so good I struggle to remember it's not actually canon. For example we know very little about Captain John Hart in Torchwood, but he has an extensive back-history in slash... Hmmm, wonder why that is?

I'll betcha Sundae could write a more literary, juicier, filthier book with her eyes closed and one hand behind her back.
