October 28, 2013: "The Simpsons" scene painted onto a Chernobyl wall

According to this My Modern Met entry,

Quote:
French Street artist Combo recently ventured to Chernobyl, a place where not many people have visited in the past decade, to put up this mural of America's beloved animated family. The Simpsons seem to be having a great time in the mural, picnicking on a grassy mound, all while the Homer's nuclear power plant is seen menacingly in the background.

The photo of the mural is striking, with the room filled with debris and what looks to be hundreds of gas masks on the ground. It's unclear what Combo's motivation was for creating this piece, but it doesn't seem like it was a coincidence that last month marked the first Anniversary of the Fukushima disaster.

I hope he's a fast painter. I wonder how hot it is there?

Likely not real hot since the menace is 'fallout' which is literally stuff that has to 'fall down' from the sky.

Neat pic toad.

Apparently, most of the area is thought to be pretty safe now, even though it's still restricted.

I'm sure (remember seeing it elsewhere) that there are some areas in Chernobyl that are very radioactive and will be for some time to come. Especially closer to the reactor. The village nearby is not nearly as bad, but still not someplace you would want to live.

I love this Simpsons mural.

Oh yeah, some really hot spots still exist. Especially those areas that everything drains down to. I'd still love to tour the area - with a Geiger counter.

The reactor area is um ah closed for humanity era.
